Willie Barcena has been a security guard, plumber, roofer and limo driver, and those jobs are the raw material for his stand-up. Late night and Comedy Central credits back it up.
Willie Barcena brings his stand-up to the Laugh Factory at Horseshoe Las Vegas, a comic whose act comes straight from the jobs he's worked. Before the stage, he spent time as a security guard, a plumber, a roofer and a limo driver, and each of those shifts left him with stories about ordinary people and ordinary headaches.
His road to Vegas ran through years of club touring, then national television, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Comedy Central specials. Jay Leno also invited him to perform for the troops in Afghanistan, which took his act well beyond any comedy club.
That mix of blue-collar background and wide-ranging audiences shapes the set. The humor leans on everyday life rather than shock, so it suits a group night out where people just want to laugh at things they recognize. Hearing a working comic tell those stories in a room built for stand-up is a different thing from catching a clip online.
