Inside a restored 1930s federal courthouse, The Mob Museum doesn't just tell the story of organized crime — it immerses you in it. From the actual Kefauver hearing chambers to a brick wall stained by history, this is Las Vegas at its most unexpectedly riveting.

Las Vegas has always worn its mythology proudly — but The Mob Museum strips that mythology down to its bones. Housed inside a meticulously restored 1930s federal courthouse in the heart of downtown, this is the rare attraction that earns its reputation through genuine historical weight. The building itself is the story. This is the very same courtroom where the Kefauver Committee hearings unfolded in 1950 and 1951 — the first televised investigation into organized crime in America. Sit inside that dim, wood-paneled chamber and watch archival footage play across a large screen, and you'll feel the gravity of what happened here long before Las Vegas became a glittering spectacle.

The artifacts on display are where things get visceral. The centerpiece is the original brick wall from Chicago's St. Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929 — seven men, Al Capone's rivals, gunned down in a garage. That wall, pockmarked and grim, traveled from Chicago to this museum, and it carries the weight of that morning with it. Alongside it sits a .38-caliber Colt Detective Special revolver believed to have belonged to Frank Gusenberg, one of the victims — the only firearm directly connected to the shooting. These aren't replicas or recreations. They are the real, unsettling objects of history. The museum also holds personal belongings of figures like Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Sam Giancana, and Mickey Cohen — names that shaped not just Vegas, but the American underworld.

What separates The Mob Museum from a passive walk through display cases is the degree to which it pulls you into both sides of the equation. You can listen in on actual FBI wiretap recordings, take aim in a law enforcement firearms simulator, or step into a police lineup booth as the suspected party. For those drawn to Hollywood's romantic vision of the mob, a plush theater room screens scenes from the genre's greatest films. And then, down a flight of stairs, the tone shifts entirely — The Underground, an authentic Prohibition-era speakeasy with an on-site distillery, swaps exhibits for handcrafted cocktails and the atmospheric hush of a world that once had to hide. At $42 million to build and housing some of the most irreplaceable crime-related artifacts in the country, this is downtown Las Vegas's most surprising and substantive experience.
